About Laura

I have been fascinated by mental health for as long as I can remember.

I am certified in the following Gottman programs: Levels 1 & 2, Treating Affairs and Trauma, Bringing Baby Home, and The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work.

I am also certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C).

I have been fascinated by mental health for as long as I can remember. I studied speech therapy and psychology in college, and then took some time off to stay home with my children. In that time, I also got my hypnotherapy certification and started working with families and individuals. After a wonderful, mind-blowing birth experience with my third child, I decided to start a childbirth education company called Blissborn — we now have teachers all over the world and have supported thousands of families on their journeys — and in 2012, I took a job at a local birth center called Dar a Luz (I still teach there, and I’m also the Staff Therapist). I also decided to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a therapist. For the last 16 years, between hypnotherapy, talk therapy, and teaching, I have personally supported people in some of the hardest struggles and most rewarding achievements imaginable, and I love it more each day.

My own struggles with mental health: I suffered with panic disorder for many years, and then I found my way out of it through self-esteem work, education, and building better habits of thought. I haven’t had a panic attack in almost 20 years. This led me to become a passionate advocate for finding a way out of worry, stress, anxiety, and panic. I have helped many people understand and conquer anxiety, in a number of formats. You don’t have to live that way!

I still work with pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and fertility. In addition, I love working with women, couples, and teens.

FAQs

Do you take insurance?

I don’t take insurance. Being held to assigning a diagnosis, having a limited time frame attached to that diagnosis, and chasing down insurance payments is limiting. Instead, I have a low fee, and I work fast.

Where are you located?

I am in the beautiful North Valley of Albuquerque, NM, but I am licensed in both NM and TX.

I anticipate returning to in-person sessions soon for those who would prefer them, but due to COVID-19, I am only doing telehealth at this time. Stay tuned for updates…

The good news is that most clients enjoy meeting remotely — you save time on your commute, and we see each other’s faces instead of masks, and we still get just as much done.

What should I expect in therapy?

You can expect an hour tailored to your needs. I ask that all clients let me know what works best for them as we go. There is no set time for therapy to continue.

In individual therapy, some clients meet with me once a week for a month, some meet weekly for several months, and some meet once a month for a year. It’s entirely up to you. My goal is to help you as much as you need, for as long as you need it, and to help you graduate from therapy when the time is right. We will discuss what’s going on with you, work on understanding it, and work together to find your solutions.

Couples therapy is about working with you both where you’re at. I bring both people in, listen to your story, and help you find your way forward — whatever that looks like for you.

Let me help you find solutions that are right for you.
